Following the success of “Behind the Tap: An Open House Program,” the Zrenjanin Water Treatment Plant continues to open its doors, this time to the next generation of technologists.
The Zrenjanin Water Treatment Plant welcomed fourth-year students from the Chemical, Food Processing and Textile High School “Uroš Predić” (Chemical Technology track) in cooperation with the City of Zrenjanin and PUC. The visit offered students a first-hand look at how safe and reliable drinking water is produced and managed as well as a window into their future profession.
Organized by Metito Utilities, a global investor, developer, and operator of providing sustainable water management solutions, the two-hour programme took students beyond the classroom and into the full operational water treatment plant. The visit began at JKP “Vodovod i kanalizacija,” where students explored the wellfield control center and the laboratory, before moving to the treatment plant to follow each stage of the treatment process and meet the engineers and technicians behind daily operations. A short quiz brought the session to a close, making the experience both engaging and memorable.
This visit marks the first in a series of school engagements at the plant, with additional visits already planned in the weeks ahead.
The student programme builds on an announcement made in February 2026, when Metito Utilities launched “Behind the Tap: An Open House Program at the Zrenjanin Water Treatment Plant,” beginning with a media visit attended by national and local journalists. The first public Open Days followed in March 2026, welcoming Zrenjanin residents to explore the facility and meet the team behind its operations firsthand.
Developed through Serbia’s first public-private partnership in the water sector between Metito Utilities, the City of Zrenjanin and JKP “Vodovod i kanalizacija,” the plant has restored safe and reliable drinking water access to more than 70,000 residents of Zrenjanin for the first time in over 20 years.
Metito Utilities plans to continue expanding its educational outreach through further collaboration with schools, universities, particularly their technical faculties across the region.
