Metito Utilities welcomed chemical engineering students from Heriot-Watt University to our Dubai Investment Park (DIP) Wastewater Treatment PPP Project, offering a first-hand look at how engineering principles are applied at scale within a live concession framework.
The visit began with an overview of the project’s development, delivery model, and operational structure, followed by a guided tour of key treatment stages led by our technical experts. Students explored how advanced and tailored water management solutions translate theoretical knowledge into measurable environmental, social, and operational outcomes.
The Dubai Investment Park (DIP) Wastewater Treatment PPP Project is the first wastewater treatment concession of its kind in the MENA region signed in 1999, structured under a long-term public–private partnership model. Developed by Metito Utilities, the facility has a total treatment capacity of 56,000 m³/day and incorporates multiple advanced treatment technologies. The plant supplies high-quality treated effluent for irrigation, industrial cooling, and urban landscaping — supporting circular water use and enhancing water resilience in the UAE.
At Metito Utilities, we view knowledge transfer and industry exposure as integral to strengthening the future water workforce. As the UAE advances its national water security strategy, initiatives such as these provide students with direct insight into the infrastructure, governance models, and technologies underpinning long-term sustainable water management.
