  Metito stresses commitment to environment, completes Dh18m contract at Delma Island

Metito, the international water treatment, desalination and wastewater treatment experts, have successfully completed work on a Dh18 million sewage treatment facilities at Delma Island in Abu Dhabi.

With this successful achievement, the company has further emphasised its commitment to safeguard the environment in the UAE and to meet the basic requirements in the area.

The scope of the company's contract encompassed design, supply, construction and maintenance of mechanical and electrical works for a sewage system to serve the Delma Island, located approximately 210km northwest of Jebel Dhana in the capital.

The project, which is was part of the Western Region Sewerage Project catering to nine villages in Abu Dhabi's Western Region, will help the country sustain the pace of its social and economic development. The contract included mechanical works associated with six pumping stations, a Sewage Treatment Plant, effluent storage and irrigation reuse facilities including an effluent tanker filling station.

Omar Al Zoubi, General Manager of Metito in Abu Dhabi, said: 'We believe that water, wastewater and the environment are central to the major issues for tomorrow's society. Keeping in view the effects of a growing population on water and air quality, it was imperative for Metito to ensure that the treated effluent was of a safe quality to be used for irrigation and plantation there, whilst providing services to an estimated population of 10,000 people living on the Island.

Mr. Al Zoubi added: 'As mandated by the global environment laws, Metito believes in following proper wastewater engineering standards, and we adhered to all the stipulated norms in the Delma project. In the past we have worked on similar assignments and surpassed our client's expectations. We have once again utilized our expertise to successfully execute this wastewater system in a challenging working environment such as Delma Island.'

Metito also provided a SCADA system to control and monitor the Sewage Treatment Plant and Sewage Lift Stations. The project consultants were KEO International Consultants in joint venture with USA's Metcalf & Eddy.
