METITO to set up a desalination plant in Oman

Metito Overseas Ltd, the international water treatment, desalination and wastewater treatment experts, have announced that the company has secured an AED 13 million project as part of the Sohar Power and Desalination plant in Oman.

This project, owned by Oman Ministry of National Economy, covers the re-mineralization part of the Multi Stage Flash (MSF) process that is used to desalinate sea water.

The Multi Stage Flash Evaporator process produces distilled water from feed water by heating it until it is ready to flash. The flashed vapor is drawn to the cooler tube bundle surfaces where it is condensed and collected as distillate.

This distilled water is highly aggressive in nature and not suitable for drinking purposes. It has to be re-mineralized with vital mineral additives that are necessary to make it potable.

METITO Overseas Ltd. Group Business Development Director Bassem Halabi said: 'We are thrilled to be awarded this prestigious contract in the Sultanate of Oman. Metito has extensive experience in sea water desalination and treatment around the world and have worked a great deal with international bodies in different sectors.'

'In the past we have worked on similar assignments and surpassed our client's expectations. Under the scope of the project, distilled water obtained through the MSF method is re-mineralized by controlling the pH level and adding suitable mineral salts in order to make it potable'

He added: 'Our past experience using this treatment process has been very successful in markets around the world. This plant in particular has a capacity of 6250 cubic meter per hour of water which is mandatory as per the site regulations and is sufficient for the fresh use of 600,000 persons per day.'
