Abu Dhabi Municipality has awarded
an AED 23 million contract to Metito, the international
water and wastewater treatment specialists, for
the construction of three new sewage treatment works
in the towns of Baaya, Sila and Ghuwaifat in the
western region of Abu Dhabi.
This project is one of a number being undertaken
by Metito for Abu Dhabi Municipality as part of
a major overall program to create new sewage treatment
systems for nine villages in the western region
of Abu Dhabi.
The works now under construction will be able to
cope with the demands of the 10,000 residents of
the towns of Baaya and Sila plus the 1,000 people
who live in Ghuwaifat.
The 720-day contract awarded to Metito includes
the design, supply, construction, commissioning,
handing over, operation and maintenance of the mechanical
and electrical works for the two sewage treatment
works.
Metito (Overseas) Ltd. Managing Director Mr. Fady
Juez said: "We are delighted to have been appointed
by Abu Dhabi Municipality on this project which
is an important part of the ongoing work to create
modern treatment works for a total of nine towns
and villages in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.
"This project will introduce the very best
technology to improve the lives of people living
in these three communities by the full treatment
of sewage and the use of treated water to help enhance
the local environment by using it for irrigation
purposes."
To build these three plants Metito will use their
standardize design which has been developed and
implemented by over more than 40 years experience
in the Gulf area based on established international
standards adapted to suit local ambient and environmental
conditions.
Specifications for the project were drawn up by
the Sewage Projects Committee of Abu Dhabi Municipality
and consultants KEO/Metcalf and Eddy to the latest
international standards with due recognition for
the concerns of Abu Dhabi Emirate.
The announcement of this new project comes following
the handing over of by Metito to Abu Dhabi Municipality
of a multi-million dollar sewerage treatment scheme
for the city of Medinet Zayed that is helping to
green the desert in that region.
Metito, a multinational company with project management
capabilities worldwide was originally founded by
its Chairman, Mr. Farouk Ghandour, in 1958.
