METITO,
the international water, wastewater treatment and
desalination experts, have won a Dhs 3.65 million
(US $1 million) contract to install a specialized
water treatment plant for a Liquid Natural Gas Plant
at Idku in the Egyptian port city of Alexandria.
The contract will be undertaken on behalf of Bechtel
to implement the plant that will deliver high quality
demineralized water for use by the plant owner the
Behera Natural Gas Liquification Company.
METITO is already working with Bechtel on other
high profile projects in Egypt including the massive
Port Ghalib leisure development in the south of
the country on the Red Sea coast.
The scope of work for the Alexandria project includes
the design, supply and supervision of installation
of a demineralization plant using a reverse osmosis
system followed by the latest electro-deionization
technology to produce high quality ultra pure water
for industrial use. The scope also includes provision
of antifoam and hypochlorite injection systems.
METITO will further design, manufacture and supply
a sewage treatment plant for the same site.
Reverse osmosis technology is used by METITO on
projects all over the world to provide clean water
that can be used for a wide range of purposes. At
Alexandria, the company will further treat the water
using electro-deionization to enhance the purity
of the water to very high levels that can be used
for specialized industrial purposes.
Electro-deionization is a new state of the art technology
that uses electricity for continuous regeneration
thus reducing the handling of hazardous chemicals
and their subsequent neutralization. The plant will
generate up to 52,800 gallons of demineralised water
per day.
METITO Egypt Limited Managing Director, Mr. Karim
Madwar, said: “ As a world leader in the application
of Reverse Osmosis technology we are very proud
to be using this technique combined with the latest
deionization technology to create the purity of
water required at a plant of this nature.
“We have extensive experience in this sector
around the world and have worked a great deal with
companies in the petrochemicals and oil exploration
sectors. A project of this nature requires highly
specialized systems and equipment to meet the highest
international environmental standards – standards
that are fully met by all METITO projects.”
METITO is the leading international company for
the provision of wastewater treatment, desalination
and water supply projects. In the UAE it operates
its European, Asian and African operations from
its headquarters in Sharjah, and has a factory and
laboratory facility in the Hamriya Free Zone. METITO
is an international company that was founded in
1958 by Mr Farouk Ghandour, its present Chairman,
and has project management capabilities to undertake
turnkey and build, operate and transfer (BOT) projects
worldwide.
