METITO, the international water and wastewater treatment
experts, have completed the construction and commissioning
of a state-of-the-art sewage and wastewater treatment
plant for Marmum Dairy Farm LLC, a fully owned subsidiary
of Dubai Investments PJSC, at its Al Ain based dairy
farm.
The plant has been specially developed by METITO
to meet the demands of Marmum that all wastewater
from the plant was treated to a standard suitable
to be used for horticultural purposes at the farm.
The plant was built and commissioned on their behalf
by METITO in 14 months.
Special processing systems were installed by METITO
to ensure that water was suitable for being used
to help the development of a Green Zone around the
farm and encourage the cultivation of fodder crops
for the cattle on the farm and for the planting
of trees and other types of vegetation in and around
the farm premises.
METITO (Overseas) Limited Managing Director, Mr
Fady Juez, said: “We were delighted to work
closely with Marmum Dairy Farm to deliver an environmentally
friendly system that would help the farm conserve
water and use treated water effectively for environmental
purposes.

We
installed a system that would handle all the wastewater
generated from the cow sheds, milking parlours and
milk handling facilities at the farm. The waste
water was then taken through a series of processes
before finally being disinfected and filtered leaving
water suitable for horticultural applications.”
Mr Khalid J. Kalban, CEO of Dubai Investments PJSC,
said: “As a responsible corporate body, Marmum
Dairy Farm is committed to playing a vital role
in the preservation of the environment. Water is
the most scarce and valuable natural resource that
needs conserving, which is why we took a strategic
decision to invest in this wastewater plant.
“Instead of following the traditional practice
of most industries, which treat their waste water
to the disposal standards applicable for sewer or
marine discharge, we decided to use this specialised
plant from METITO to ensure our treated effluent
will be of a higher standard for use of a range
of horticultural activities.”
METITO is the leading international company for
the provision of wastewater treatment, desalination
plants and water supply projects. In the UAE it
operates its European, African and Asian operations
from their headquarters in Sharjah, and has a factory
and laboratory facility in the Hamriya Free Zone.
It was founded in 1958 by Mr. Farouk Ghandour, its
present Chairman, and has project management capabilities
to undertake similar and much larger projects worldwide.
