Project to be undertaken for Bechtel at Liquefied
Natural Gas Plant at Darwin
METITO, a world leader in water, waste water and
desalination treatment projects and technology,
has won a Dhs 5.75 million contract to install a
specialised water treatment plant for a Liquefied
Natural Gas Plant in the northern Australian city
of Darwin.
METITO and Bechtel are already working closely on
a number of projects in Egypt including another
liquefied natural gas project in Alexandria and
the massive Port Ghalib leisure development in the
south of the country.
The scope of work for the Darwin plant includes
the provision of a state of the art demineralization
plant that will feature a reverse osmosis system
followed by the latest technology electro-deionization
process. In addition, METITO will provide antifoam
and hypochlorite metering packages and an on-site
sewage treatment works. Reverse
osmosis technology is used by METITO on projects
all over the world to provide clean water that
can be used for a range of services. In Darwin
they will further treat the water using electro-deionization
to enhance the purity of the water to levels that
can be used for specialised industrial purposes.
The plant being installed in Australia will generate
up to 162,000 gallons of demineralised water every
day.
The
project is the second that METITO has undertaken
in Australia. Engineering and execution of the
project will be carried out of the company’s
headquarters in the UAE.
METITO
(Overseas) Limited Director for Business Development
Bassem Halabi said: “As a world leader in
the application of Reverse Osmosis technology,
we are very proud to be using this technique combined
with the latest EDI (electro-deionization) technology
to create the high purity degree of water required.
“We
have extensive experienced in this sector around
the world and have worked a great deal with companies
in the petrochemicals and oil exploration sectors.
A project of this nature requires highly specialised
systems and equipment to meet the most demanding
international environmental standards –
standards that are fully met by all METITO projects.”
As
the leading international company in its field
METITO currently operates its European, Asian
and African operations from its regional headquarters
in Sharjah and has a factory and laboratory facility
