METITO
the international water, wastewater treatment and
desalination experts, have won a major industrial
wastewater treatment project in Iran worth Dhs 11
million that is part of the massive South Pars Gas
Field Development project.
The project at Bandar Assuliyah will be undertaken
by METITO on behalf of Hyundai at a major onshore
polystyrene plant that is a downstream facility
from the South Pars Gas Field that is the biggest
and most ambitious petrochemical development in
Iran.
Already active on a number of major projects in
the country this will be the first industrial wastewater
treatment system that METITO has installed in Iran.
METITO Overseas Ltd Director for Business Development,
Mr. Bassem Halabi, said: “This is a very prestigious
and important project for us in this growing market.
We are delighted to be able to apply our international
expertise in industrial wastewater treatment to
this plant that is managed by Hyundai on behalf
of AGIP Iran".
"We have extensive experience in the petrochemical
sector around the world but this will be our first
project of this type in the industrial sector in
Iran. A project of this nature requires highly specialized
systems and equipment to meet the highest international
environmental standards – standards that are
fully met by all METITO projects"
The scope of work for this project includes the
design, manufacture, delivering and supervision
of the commissioning of a condensate de-oiling system,
a chemical wastewater treatment plant, oily wastewater
treatment plant and a sewage treatment plant.
It is believed that the South Pars Gas Field –
jointly owned by Iran and Qatar – holds an
estimated 6.8 per cent of the world’s total
gas reserves. Onshore gas treatment facilities developed
by Iran allow for the creation of a number of petrochemical
plants for the production of a number of different
by-products.
The entire Bandar Assuliyah project is being developed
in 14 phases with AGIP Iran seeking a number of
leading international companies to work with it
on developing different phases and elements.
Mr. Bassem Halabi added: “This is one of the
world’s biggest and most important petrochemical
developments and METITO is very proud to have become
a part of this project where we can utilize our
world-class expertise and skills and will build
on our record of other projects undertaken in the
country in the past.”
Other major industrial wastewater treatment plant
projects undertaken by METITO include the Kertih
Aromatics Plant and Melaka Refinery in Malaysia,
and the Thai Lube Base and National Fertilizer Company
Plant in Thailand.
METITO is the leading international company for
the provision of wastewater treatment, desalination
and water supply projects. In the UAE it operates
its European, Asian and African operations from
its headquarters in Sharjah and has a factory and
laboratory facility in the Hamriya Free Zone. METITO
is an international company that was founded in
1958 by Mr Farouk Ghandour, its present Chairman,
and has project management capabilities to undertake
turnkey and build, operate and transfer (BOT) projects
worldwide.
