UAE-based multinational Metito wins global desalination award |

Metito, the international desalination, water and wastewater treatment specialist, was awarded the highly prestigious 'Desalination Company of the Year 2006' by the Global Water Intelligence magazine in recognition of the company's significant and valuable contribution to the industry worldwide.

The award was presented to Mr. Bassem Halabi, Group Business Development Director of Metito, at a gala ceremony during the International Desalination Association Water Forum. The award is given to the desalination plant supplier which has made the most significant contribution to the advance the industry during 2005. Now in its second year, the award has been instituted by 'Global Water Intelligence' magazine to recognize the innovation and commitment of companies and organizations which strive to ensure availability of water for the future generations.

The awards highlight the important work done by water companies and agencies, engineers, contractors, deal makers and bankers to guarantee a sustainable future for all.
The winners of the 2006 Global Water Awards were chosen by an electoral college comprising the subscribers to Global Water Intelligence magazine, subscribers to Water Desalination Report, members of the International Desalination Association (IDA) and members of the International Private Water Association.
Receiving the award Mr. Halabi said:
'This is a great moment of international recognition for everyone at Metito. We won the award despite tough competition from high caliber US, European, and Far Eastern companies. This is a clear reflection of our commitment, our international best practices and world class innovation which act as a quality platform through which we strive to serve the community and our client-base'
Metito, founded in 1958, is a shining example of a Middle Eastern company that has grown to be a world leader in its field. Metito operates locally in 14 countries of the Arab and Islamic World, and supplies its plants internationally to locations as far apart as Argentina and Australia from its base in the UAE. Some of the company's notable achievements in 2005 include the rehabilitation of the Hartha & Najibiyah power stations in Iraq, the water supply to Pelindo ports in Indonesia, drinking water supply to Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt and the innovative reuse of water at The Palm, Jumeirah.
